How to Assemble Your Mirewood Sofa — 15 to 30 Minutes, No Tools

Every Mirewood Halo and Valen sofa arrives flat-packed and assembles without a single tool. The pieces connect with hidden interlocking steel clips, the legs twist into pre-installed sockets by hand, and the cushions simply drop into place. Most customers finish a 2-seater in about 15 minutes and a 5-piece corner sectional in about 30. One person can do it alone, though a second pair of hands makes the larger sectionals faster.

The Valen assembles the same way. The only difference is the cushions, which are thicker.

Before You Start

• Clear the floor space where the sofa will live, plus a few feet around it to lay pieces out.
• Count your boxes. Your sofa arrives in 3–7 cartons depending on the configuration. Check the packing slip so you know everything has arrived before you start.
• Keep the packaging until the sofa is assembled and you are happy with it. It makes a return or an exchange much simpler.
• No tools needed. A box cutter for the cartons is the only thing you need, and even that can be replaced with a key.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Unbox the pieces. Open every carton and lay the parts out: seat bases, back rests, arms, legs, and cushions. Each carton is sized to fit through a standard 32-inch doorway, so you can unbox in the room itself rather than in the hallway.
2. Lay out the seat bases. Position the bases on the floor in the shape you want — straight, L-shape, or U-shape. Leave a small gap between them for now; you will push them together at the end.
3. Attach the back rests. Line each back rest up with its base and lower it onto the hidden steel connector clips. Press down firmly. You will hear and feel a solid click when it locks.
4. Attach the arms. Arms go on the outer pieces only (the armchair and end modules). Same snap-clip mechanism: position the arm against the side of the base and press until it clicks.
5. Attach the legs. Tip each piece onto its back, locate the pre-installed threaded sockets underneath, and twist each leg in by hand until snug. Do not use pliers or a wrench — hand-tight is correct and protects the socket.
6. Connect the modules to each other. Stand the pieces upright and push them together at the seams. The hidden connectors engage automatically as the pieces meet. Give each join a gentle tug; if the pieces stay together, they are locked.
7. Place the cushions. Seat cushions first, then back cushions, then arm pillows on the end pieces. Give everything a fluff. That is the whole job.

Doorway and Stairwell Fit

Every Mirewood carton is sized to clear a standard 32-inch doorway, and because the sofa ships as separate modules rather than one assembled piece, it also clears tight stairwells and apartment elevators that a traditional sofa cannot. If your entry is narrower than 30 inches (some older buildings have 28–30 inch doors), email us before ordering and we can confirm the carton dimensions for your configuration.

Fitting the Covers

Covers arrive already on the cushions and bases. When you wash them later, put them back on while they are still slightly damp — the fabric relaxes as it finishes drying and settles smoothly over the foam with no creases. See the care and cleaning guide for the full wash routine.

Reconfiguring Later

Taking the sofa apart is the same process in reverse. Lift and pull the modules away from each other and the connector clips release without damage. Back rests and arms lift off their clips the same way. This means you can:

• Change the shape — turn a straight sofa into an L-shape by moving the corner piece.
• Add pieces — any middle seat, corner piece, or ottoman from the same collection connects to what you already own. Individual modules are $650 each.
• Move house — break the sofa back down to modules, and each one fits through the door again.

Troubleshooting

A back rest or arm will not click in.
Lift it off and check that the clips on both parts are lined up straight. They only engage when the piece is square to the base. Lower it again and press on both ends at once.

Two modules will not stay together.
Make sure both pieces are sitting fully on their legs on a level floor — a rug edge under one piece is the most common cause. Lift the lighter piece slightly and slide it into the other.

A leg feels loose.
Tip the piece back and hand-tighten. If the socket itself moves, stop and email us — that is covered under the frame warranty.

A cushion looks flatter than the others.
New cushions can compress in transit. Fluff it, leave it uncovered for a few hours, and it will recover. Rotating seat cushions every month or two keeps wear even.

Something is missing or damaged.
Email us a photo and your order number and we will ship the replacement part.

Do I really not need any tools?
Correct. Clips snap, legs twist in by hand, cushions drop in. The only tool is something to open the cartons.

Can one person assemble it?
Yes. The heaviest single piece is a seat base, and no step requires holding two heavy parts at once. A second person speeds up the larger sectionals but is not required.

Do the pieces come apart again without damage?
Yes. The connector clips are designed to be engaged and released repeatedly, which is what makes the sofa reconfigurable.

Can I assemble it on carpet?
Yes. Just make sure the pieces are level with each other when you push them together so the connectors line up.

Will the sofa fit through my door?
Every carton fits a standard 32-inch doorway. If yours is narrower than 30 inches, email us first.
