Which Mirewood Sofa Is Right for You?

Mirewood makes two modular cloud sofa collections — the Halo and the Valen. Both use the same style of tool-free steel-clip modular design (Halo pieces connect only with Halo pieces, and Valen with Valen), the same machine-washable performance covers (a cotton-linen blend on Halo, a linen blend on Valen), and the same frame built with kiln-dried wood. They differ in what matters most once you sit down: seat depth (29.5 inches on the Halo, 25.6 on the Valen) and how firm the seat feels. This guide walks you through that choice, then sizing, configuration, colors, and what to expect after you order.

The 30-Second Answer

The Halo Collection — Deep Sink-In Cloud Sectional

The Halo is our best-seller. Its cushions are built in layers: high-density foam for support and a down-blend wrap on top for that soft, enveloping sink. It is the closest thing in our lineup to the feel of an RH Cloud or an Anabei, at a fraction of the price. Combined with the tightly woven performance fabric — which resists snags, stains, and pet fur — it is the configuration we recommend for daily heavy use.

Best for: adults who want maximum lounge comfort, living rooms where the sofa is the centerpiece, and anyone who has sat on a deep cloud sofa in a showroom and did not want to get up.

The Valen Collection — Medium-Firm Modular Cloud Sofa

The Valen uses the same type of modular design (Valen pieces connect only with Valen pieces) and the same high-density foam and down-blend wrap, but a shallower 25.6-inch seat and a medium-firm feel, so you get the cloud look and a soft first impression without sinking so far that the sofa is hard to get out of.

Best for: families with pets and kids, households that host, anyone who works or eats on the sofa, and anyone who wants a sofa that still looks right after a decade.

Step 1: Pick Your Size

Count seats first, then check the room. A rough guide that works for most homes:

2-seater — studios and apartments under about 600 sq ft, offices, reading nooks, or a second sofa in a larger room.
3-seater — the most popular starting point. Fits a standard apartment or townhouse living room and seats three adults comfortably.
4-seater — a standard 800–1,200 sq ft living room, or any family of four that wants everyone on one sofa.
L-shape or U-shape sectional — open-plan spaces, rooms larger than about 1,200 sq ft, or anyone who wants a chaise to stretch out on.
5-piece corner sectional (with or without ottoman) — the full lounge. Best in large or open-plan living rooms where the sofa anchors the space.

Measure the wall the sofa will sit against and leave at least 30 inches of walkway in front. If you are between two sizes, start with the smaller one — every Mirewood piece connects to every other piece in its collection, so you can add a middle seat, a corner, or an ottoman later for $650 rather than buying a whole new sofa.

Step 2: Pick Your Shape

Every configuration is built from the same modules — armchairs (end pieces with one arm), middle seats, corner pieces, and ottomans — so the shape is never permanent.

Straight sofa — two end pieces with middle seats between them. Classic, fits against any wall.
L-shape — a straight run plus a corner piece and one more seat at a right angle. Great for defining a seating area in an open-plan room.
U-shape — two arms of seating around a corner. Best for movie nights and big families.
Add an ottoman — turn any seat into a chaise, add a footrest, or use the storage ottoman to hide blankets and remotes.

Step 3: Pick Your Color

Because every cover is machine-washable, light colors are a realistic choice even with kids and pets. White and Beige are our most popular colors for exactly that reason. Black hides the most between washes. Gray (Valen only) sits between the two. Replacement covers are sold separately in the covers collection, so you can change the color of your sofa later without changing the sofa.

Step 4: Check the Doorway

Every Mirewood sofa ships flat-packed in cartons sized to fit through a standard 32-inch doorway, so you do not need to measure stairwells or remove doors. If your entry is narrower than 30 inches, email us before ordering and we will confirm the carton sizes for your configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is better for pets?
Both work well. Both fabrics are tightly woven, machine-washable and lab-tested to 100,000 double rubs, so cleaning is identical. Choose the Halo if your family likes to lounge, or the Valen for a firmer seat that is easier to get up from.

Which is more like the RH Cloud?
